How
do detectives turn crime-scene evidence into useful clues? On Thursday, October 29th, VINSE welcomed students from Centennial High School to our Forensics Lab to find out. Students explored how scientists use light to learn about the composition and properties of different materials. Using Raman, FTIR, absorption, and photoluminescence spectroscopy, they examined evidence and collected data from different types of jewelry, gaining firsthand experience with techniques commonly used in scientific research and forensic analysis.
A special thank you to our NanoGuides, Liz Hays, Zack Martin, Soren Smail, and Kirsten Stinson, for helping make the program a success. Their guidance helped students navigate forensic puzzles, explore fundamental scientific concepts, and stay engaged throughout the activities!
